Blast Beat Poetry

Most days are dreadful. Today was not one of those. I understand-- we all understand.

What's Not Happening

Hair turns to snow in a matter of months. Headaches like the guy in Scanners. Barbed wire taxes strangling the more you struggle. The only 4-letter word that truly offends: debt. Give me a heavy blanket to hide
Under
Forever.

D.W. Fearn VT1

I am selling my most prized mic pre for $1,750, plus $59 shipping. This thing sells for $2,650 new. It's going to be missed but I'm sure it will wind up well-respected in a good studio.

Heart Gone Awry

We not only survived, we made something tangible-- this was the priority. However, the problem lay in our inability to socialize beyond a certain length of time. When that fuse extinguished, we folded into ourselves and hid in the safety of 5-star hotels. Getting our kicks with sunsets, iTunes movie rentals, and room service. Knowing all the while: we are really and truly broke, no one to bail us out.

Embrace Yourself

With everything we strived for, we chickened out and handed our worldviews over like contraband. Then, we came upon the notion that 'the great End' was not such a bad thing if it meant we didn't have to stick around for 'the great End' of our nearest and dearest. Yes, that was quite a notion to snuggle up with.

Samael, Ramones, Misfits, What?

We were never impressed with Samael's "Blood Ritual" until we smoked and it was the greatest record ever made. In the sober light of day? It brings back fond memories.

Rites Of Darkness

We are always preparing, never finishing. But the time is now to finish. Everything.

C + E = R

What does consciousness joined with energy create? After you've found the answer, will you always remember it? And what is the job of a musician but try to fill the emptiness of existence?

Gore-less Joy

The lessons, can we put them aside for a bit? It's time for gifts, for diaphanous mind-fuckery. The exams and the fire-- we've had enough, thanks. No more sirens unless it's to signify the celebration of a life finally in control.

Hat And Home With Viceroy

We've managed to successfully make this a private place to store our mechanics. The exterior is dated, as always. It is the boundless interior that makes it shine.

The Moon Doth Forget Thy Dreams

Abundance beyond is unmanageable for us, the poor. We are better suited to meagerness and skin tight hovels. With all of this extension, we have reached greater levels of overarching darkness.

Gradually, we break and snap. The thread that binds us together is not a rope.

It's Over, Under, and Through

The bridge is over the water. Over the hills, through the woods. No use crying over spilled milk. He's over the hill. Game over. Do we have any leftovers?

The Sleeping Snake

The pond dried up every night so we walked through with our flashlights to look at all the animals. I was stunned at how many snakes there were, burrowed in little mud beds. Some were huge and vicious-looking. I decided to wake up the biggest one so I got a big stick and tried to lift it out of the mud. It was very heavy so I started kicking it. I finally wedged it up and out of it's mud bed. As soon as it hit the ground it sprang to life and instantly disappeared in the darkness.

Is Everybody High

I daresay, this may be the greatest live Ozzy-sans-Sabbath record of all time. If you remove Rhoads and Iommi from the equation, Brad Gillis was an underrated guitarist. You, on the other hand, will hate it-- for all the correct reasons! Ozzy let this go out of print, for different reasons. I got it when it was new and loved it. I even decoded the rune border surrounding the album, by figuring out the vowels first (it's an ode to Randy Rhoads). The only Sabbath record I owned was Master Of Reality, so this was my introduction to their other material.

The artwork and photography is great, the sound quality is clean yet analog, and ozzy is on fire.

Hearing this again, as an adult, reminds me how much I like these versions. It's the sound I was going for in Maurice-- which could be an explanation as to why everyone hated us!

The Light And Other Nonsense

The ones you cherish. The steadfast few. The Quisp-eating fools. The Curious George Einsteins. Without them you are just a man in a flat.

The ones you loathe. The fickle followers. The Big Mac Church of Christ. Shaun the Hypocritical Sheep. Without them you are just a God unfettered.

The ones you befriend. The infernal militia. Professional sinners. The Count Chocula Legion. Without them you are just a small town street at 3 AM.

Come Punch

He begins his sizable, treacherous journey by carrying 28 guitars up 3 flights of stairs, in the pissing rain. "Is it really better to do things alone?" he muses while waiting for the locksmith. "Aye, it is always better," he determines. Although not always best, comes the punch.
