Okay Summer Now

So all the travel changes are putting me into Brisbane on Wednesday morning -- hopefully that means I can get some drinks with the almighty Portal!

26.12.10

Could You Tell How Hard It Was Onstage?

Left home, waited in lines for nine hours, went back home. All in a day's work!

Blue Green Snow

Post-Xmas cab drivers have the tiny privilege of sharing that empty, numb moment transients ordinarily feel in solitude.

24.12.10

Happy Holidays, Church Arsonists!

Time to initiate the vegan Xmas roast. Let's burn the stuffing, hey ho!

21.12.10

A Thankful Corpse

Somehow the moon always manages to ferret me out of the darkness. I fall asleep like a bonfire going out, kicking to the last ember.

Caliginous Mind

How does one choose between two regrets? The less-regrettable yet stressful-to-most-all decision? Should stress even be a consideration? Someone tell me, please.

20.12.10

An Unprepossessing Entrance

All good things gotta come to an end.

Neglect And Warfare

Guts flow when bodies are cracked open. Suffer the ruling of lead, or take your mind off it. Only those who have dipped into true beauty (not 2D) can understand the slicing pain of removal. The war is on (still).

18.12.10

Evila M

A travel guitar, a tiny midi controller and a computer-- all I used to make this record. Drums were played on my lap (replaced with samples). All tracking done in hotel rooms while on tour. Still arranging this masterful nut-job

7.12.10

Face Fuck Book.

It shouldn't be a big deal to shut down your Facebook page-- it's fun for a while and then you move on. If you don't need it to 1) promote your band, 2) reconnect with old friends, and/or 3) get laid, then what's the point? My free-love, befriend-everyone style become more of a burden after a while. Same thing happened with Myspace.

My friends have my email and telephone number, that's good enough for me.

5.12.10

Prophet (early 80s)

This promo pic must be from 1983. I know I left in mid '84 and I had big Tina Turner hair by then. Note the dog collar as bracelet accessory.

2.11.10

I Didn't Plan On Dying

I held onto my stash, I had to make it last. Until the seedlings rose up to the sky. Until the teachers burned down the school. Who knows how long this will last? Not you or I. Not the fetishistic priests, the lazy guardians. I will plant my teeth in the garden and eat whatever grows there.

31.10.10

Denials denied.

Thanks to services like Twitter and Facebook (whose status updates are just my Twits), I haven't been using this blog much. The aforementioned services have their pros and cons but I'm not always into the one sentence summaries, the comments dialogues, the public persona, etc. Sometimes I just want to write gibberish. Or waffle on about the recording process. Or wax lyrical about meditations, dreams, etc. Sometimes I need space to write. So Pink Hollers, here I come again.

The photo you see above is a case I bought recently to house my mobile recording setup. I've set up something small and self-contained so I can record in hotel rooms while I tour with Interpol.

Rifle not included.

2.5.10

New Evila Master

This option is no longer available. If you download now it is the most current version!

Those of you who purchased Evila through alive.evila.co.uk know that there is a remastered version that sounds a bit better than the original. If you purchased through Amazon or iTunes write excoriare@evila.co.uk with proof of purchase for a free download link.

23.4.10

New Old Pickguard

Slapped a new old pickguard on the bass and now I can't stop playing it.

20.4.10

Bass Invaders

I am approaching these songs, finally with a light heart. It's been a lot of work trying to learn them all as some are quite elaborate. I am still behind schedule but I plan on mending this today.

Here is a picture of my 1964 P Bass and backup. As you would expect  the backup has lower action, better intonation, lighter and more enjoyable to play. But the '64 sounds like Odin.

15.3.10

Thanking You.

Thanks to everyone who has been buying Pajo / Papa M via music.davidpajo.com and Evila courtesy of alive.evila.co.uk!!! I recently used the earnings to buy a TC Electronic Polytune and a Rycote Invision USM-L shockmount. You are literally allowing me to make better sounding music! Please note I said "better sounding music" as opposed to "better music."

12.3.10

Scion

The powers below have brought me to Scion, to celebrate with fire!
Appendages crossed...

9.3.10

First and Last Ink Job

Way cooler than an autograph-- play Hangman with a tattoo gun!

3.3.10

Engage The Totality

How quickly she spins when you honor your totality. How perfectly she inverts your biography and improvises new chapters. You don't question how you'll manage to achieve anymore. You don't wonder about the logisitics anymore.

28.2.10

Dangerboy From Around The Way

A narrative is begining to roll out like red carpet. Although we spend all our precious linear lives beside space heaters in a Midwestern garage, the chilled air is pressurized with hope.

27.2.10

The Old Revolution

Tearing apart old boxes and putting the same old filthy junk into new plastic bins. Remnants of decades that don't seem to paint any picture. Late at night, I saw a little girl running through the snow on her hands and knees. Looking at me through the window with yellow eyes.

20.2.10

Fake gold chains, fake hair on chest.

A double espresso from Travonna Coffee House is too hot, too bitter, and too big. Finally picked up my Scion ticket today. From the glinting ether, a medallion fell. Now, I just have to find a necklace that doesn't give me a rash.

17.2.10

The Sun Is Hollow And Cold

We thrive, and writhe.

Freezing Silence

Winter "duses" upon us, covering these wretched sounds with angelic powder. Bitterness, mental tortures large and small, endured within walls. While the frost-beasties groan, on the pounce.

Remixing Evila

Currently going through the tedious process of remixing all the Evila songs-- I rushed that first mix and the results sound like it. Now it is closer to the original intention, in fact it is almost a different album. Here's a screenshot of my automation fades for one of the songs.

10.11.09

"Fuck Art, Let's Fart" - spray painted in the 80s by Rat

Logic isn't jiving with my Pro Tools hardware and Pro Tools LE doesn't have plugin delay compensation. The ATA Mellowmuse plugin is worthless when you've trying to use a summing box and lots of analog gear, its absolutely inconsistent. The guitars sound thin and fuzzy. The snare has no body and no snap. I've used up all the iMac's memory and so Pro Tools crashes instead of closes. I've been working on these same stupid songs for over a year. 100-300 Hz is nonexistent no matter how much I treat the room. Why am I working so hard on the worst record I've ever made? No label is releasing it, it's purely a piece of art. Instead of making money I'm making something no one will ever hear or care about-- purely a vanity project. Just another one of those inexplicable things you have to do if you want to live with yourself.

1.11.09

One Fuck Up After The Other

This Frankenstein is covered with bandages. I'll screw something up and won't have time to patch it up properly. I'm the enemy, victim and war medic. What follows are the remains.

Whatever, I tell myself. It's just music.

I Take Breaks From Love

Pee breaks, that is. That's why I always know what phase the moon is-- I have a big, quiet backyard.

25.10.09

Evila Is Nearly.

We don't usually get warm and fuzzy about Halloween but the weather has been flawlessly spook-tastic. Last night I recorded whispered vocals for three songs and wrote lyrics for another three (the Chandler Limited TG1 compressor is dazzling). Still found time to practice on the Arctopus while getting creeped out watching Pin.

Evila is nearly.

19.10.09

Regeneration

I've spent a huge portion of my life staring at this. Not too proud of
that. But what the hey-- it serves a purpose.
Last thing I remember, I closed my eyes to listen to the level of the
sample underneath the real snare. When my face hit the keyboard, it
was time for bed.

Prussian Pink

We get sloppy when we move too fast, unfocused and incognizant of the
details. And the result is total shit, absolute fucking crap. It's
time for a gore feature.

Gargot In Action

I added a Big Knob, a Red Eye, and a Red Stripe to Gargot in the past
24 hours. These manufacters come up with the dumbest names... I am so
in love with my studio, I indulge in it's deep, rich sounds for as
long as I'm allowed. I spend a good portion of the day in the same 6
foot radius.

Boomslang

Played a festival in Lexington Kentucky. Slap happy and raw from the
evening's festivities!

Home On A Cloudburst

I keep tweaking Gargot Studios until it is airborne and germ-free.
Shit is sounding tight.

For too long I have lived in fear of my enemy-- they are about as
powerful as Dwight Schrute.

6.10.09

Grendel and Red Leaves

Drove for several hours through the back roads of Ohio. To pick up an
isolation cabinet. Ended up in Amish country-- dodging horse-drawn
carriages and bearded Mennonites. Didn't take any photos because I
didn't want to wow them with my technology. The iso-cab sounds pretty
sweet for 4am reamping.

5.10.09

Hula Hoop Dreams

At this point, he had been hula-hooping for over 55 hours.

1.10.09

Working on the Ditz

Hello friends and lovers. I'm back for good. Fuck Facebook, fuck Twitter... This is my virtual diary! I finally have a phone with a camera and MMS thingamajig. I have no excuse for not letting you in to my weird world.

I'm Back In Black

23.9.09

Return of the Skullfisher

It's been a long, dark journey. My Psychic sidekick told me I needed
to write a book. And it's ambitiousness appealled to me. Not memoirs,
or wonky poetry you could download from some 14 year old's MySpace...
But a real book, a novel. Fiction. A comic book!

26.8.09

Metal H(e)aven, Motel Hell(o)

We give thanks, everyday, for specific people in our lives-- we visualize them clearly. We also send psychic hexes to our enemies, it's easy to visualize every stage of their blistering decay. Then we give thanks to ourselves, for making all this silly drama possible.

Fasting In Belfast

Jet lag offers a window of laziness. It takes a while for the music I make to catch up with the music I listen to, it takes years. By that time I'm usually over it. But I carry these gems with me that I never would have found otherwise. True discovery does not happen on the Intra-Web.

13.8.09

Thou shalt behold... the Arctopus!

Came home to a prototype Jackson 7 string. Neck through, EMGs, real Floyd Rose, Soloist body... Jesus, I almost had one of these custom-made last year, I can't believe they read my mind. That's why I am a proud Jackson endorsee. I need to treat it like a skateboard and start covering it with stickers and graffiti, or gaffa tape. My fingertips haven't been this calloused in years. I think all my future solo records are going to be written on this thick beast. 90s nü-metal gave the 7 string a bad rap. I have named her Arctopus, in honor of the band.

3.8.09

Bloodshot Mush

On the tour bus from Montreal to Toronto, 1-8am. Arriving in a daze, there's that moment before passing out, when the rest of the world is buzzing to start their day, when I am at my most disoriented. I find pictures like this on my phone when I awaken.

2.8.09

Black Attack

Maybe I don't hear what others hear, but I really love the sound of
early 90s, lo-fi Black Metal. I dont care about the politics and
ideology, it's the music I find really moving. The alienation, the
hatred-- I get it.

flames, and have already started the lengthy questioning proccess.

A Large, Quick Turn

In March I went with Alex to see Carcass in Cleveland. I think it was March. They were funnier and tighter than I expected. Mike Ammot took only a few solos.

I got a text from Nick that night, asking if I wanted to jam with them-- I'll never forget it!

Now it is July.

As a road is always strange and beautiful with it's repetitions, I'm driving to that same venue tonight-- this time to share the stage with Nick.

26.7.09

RIP DASH

I took an opportunity to drink when it presented itself. Tried to see
Dead Weather and I wasn't on the guest list-- O golly gee! So I chose the always life-affirming DEADSEA instead. I drank and laughed to the point that supreme magic occurred, past anything I could have prepared for. For a moment, albeit concise, I forgot that I really was friends with Dash Snow-- a few hours previous I nearly convinced myself of the opposite.

Tracking Madly Backwards

I posted on my Twitter page that I'm a guitar-take factory. I only have a few hours at night to crank it out so it's slow going. I'm tracking everything direct and monitoring via the Line 6 XTP-Pro, to reamp later. This is not the solo Pajo record anyone expects, cares about, or wants, as per usual!

iPhone, Dimebag, Ottowa

Just watched the Dimevision DVD and had a good laugh at his fireworks wake-up call for guests. I have a corner hotel room here in Ottowa, so I have two windows overlooking the city. It's very beautiful, I wish I could share it. I need a damn iPhone so I can start posting photos again!

5.7.09

Roskilde 2009

Wolves In The Throne Room, Gojira, Neurosis and Amon Amarth played and I missed them all. I missed them all!

4.7.09

Bliss

Went to the Herman Nisch exhibit in Vienna. It seemed very complicated and perverse. At 4am I took a walk along the river in Belfort, France, listening to Hate Forest very loud with my new headphones. Later that morning I drew several logos, each one getting successively closer to an unknown ideal. And then something dawned on me, and I broke into tears. A dream of the future.

1.7.09

Cauterized

I did my first tour in 1985, but it was a short one. Of all the time I've spent in Europe, this is my first time to Prague. The rain is heavy and unceasing. Sometimes they flirt and sometimes I do as well, but it's all for sport.
